Leicester City star will leave Leicester City this summer after the club decided against offering the midfielder a permanent contract following the end of his loan spell.

The Nigeria international arrived from Southampton during the January transfer window as Leicester attempted to avoid relegation, but he struggled to establish himself in the side.

Aribo made just six appearances for the Foxes, with only one of those coming as a starter during his debut against Birmingham City.

With his Southampton contract due to expire this summer, there had been speculation Leicester could look to keep him at the King Power permanently ahead of next season.

However, reports from All Nigeria Soccer claim talks over a deal have now broken down, leaving the 28-year-old available on a free transfer.

It is understood Leicester held initial discussions with the player’s representatives, but Aribo was unwilling to commit to playing in League One following the club’s relegation.

The midfielder previously featured in the third tier during his time with Charlton Athletic before earning a move to Rangers in 2019.

His performances in Scotland helped establish his reputation, but his stock has fallen considerably over the past two seasons.

Aribo found himself on the fringes at Southampton under Will Still and experienced similar frustrations at Leicester, where Harry Winks, Oliver Skipp and Hamza Choudhury remained ahead of him in the pecking order.

Despite a difficult campaign, Aribo’s experience in both the Championship and Scottish Premiership is still likely to attract interest from clubs searching for midfield depth this summer.
