Leicester City’s preparations for the 2026/27 campaign officially get under way on Monday as Russell Martin oversees his first pre-season training sessions since being appointed manager, marking the beginning of a crucial new chapter following the club’s relegation to League One.

After a summer of significant change both on and off the pitch, attention now turns to the hard work required at Seagrave, where Martin and his coaching staff will begin implementing the philosophy they hope can guide the Foxes back to the Championship at the first attempt.

Players are expected to report back for fitness testing before training intensity increases over the coming weeks, with Martin keen to establish his style of play from the outset.

The former Southampton boss has already spoken about the importance of creating a hardworking, united squad capable of reconnecting with supporters after a disappointing campaign.

Speaking recently, Martin said: “I know what this Football Club means to people and I know the responsibility that comes with that.

“We have to work, we have to give everything, and we have to build a team that our supporters can feel connected to and proud of.”

The manager has also been encouraged by the response from the Leicester faithful after the club confirmed that all 23,500 season tickets for the new campaign have been sold, describing the support as a huge source of motivation heading into pre-season.

Recruitment is expected to remain a priority throughout the summer, while decisions are still to be made on the futures of several senior players as Martin shapes the squad in his own image.

New signings could also arrive before Leicester begin their pre-season fixtures later this month.

With the countdown to the new League One season now well and truly under way, Monday represents far more than the first day of training.

It is the start of Leicester City’s rebuilding process under Russell Martin, with promotion back to the Championship firmly established as the club’s primary objective.
