West Ham United are bracing themselves for a pivotal summer after relegation from the Premier League ended a 13-year stay in the top flight.

Despite signing off with a convincing 3-0 victory over Leeds United on the final day, the Hammers fell short of survival, finishing two points behind Tottenham Hotspur and slipping into the Championship. Attention has now turned to rebuilding a squad capable of securing an immediate return.

Manager Nuno Espírito Santo faces a significant challenge, with uncertainty surrounding several of the club’s key players.

Jarrod Bowen, Mateus Fernandes and Taty Castellanos have all been linked with moves away from the London Stadium, leaving supporters anxious about what the team could look like when the new season begins.

If Bowen does depart, some fans believe Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu could be an ideal replacement. Football League World’s West Ham fan pundit Joe Davis is among those convinced the Ghana international would be a smart target.

“As far as Bowen replacements go, I think I’d go with Fatawu from Leicester,” Davis told Football League World.

“Could get him on a pretty decent deal.

“I’m not entirely sure he’d fully earn a move to the Premier League yet, so with Leicester being relegated I think this is one we’ve got to take advantage of.

“I know he’s been a bit hit and miss the year just gone, but I think everyone in the Championship knows what he can do, and I think, if Bowen had to go, I genuinely don’t see any better like-for-like replacement.”

Bowen remains one of West Ham’s most influential players, contributing nine goals and 11 assists in the league campaign.

However, with ambitions of returning to the Premier League, the club may need to plan for every eventuality.

Fatawu’s record of nine goals and seven assists for Leicester last season highlights his potential.

At just 22, he represents both immediate quality and long-term value, making him a player worth monitoring as West Ham prepare for a busy summer transfer window.
