Louis Page has credited Russell Martin with giving Leicester City’s players a fresh sense of belief during the early weeks of pre-season, describing the new head coach as someone who has encouraged him to express himself without fear.

The young midfielder has been among those looking to impress since Martin’s arrival at Seagrave, with competition for places expected to intensify ahead of the new campaign.

Despite that challenge, Page believes the manager’s approach has helped him settle into the squad and play with greater confidence.

Martin has already made it clear that he wants his side to dominate possession and remain brave on the ball, and Page feels those instructions suit his game.

Whether deployed as a holding midfielder or in a more advanced role, the youngster says he has been trusted to play naturally rather than overthink his performances.

Speaking about the impact the new boss has had, Page said: ‘Definitely a lot of confidence, he’s brought that to me.’

He also explained how Martin’s faith has allowed him to enjoy his football again, adding: ‘The manager has given me lots of confidence to go and play, whether in the six or eight. He’s given me real good confidence to play my football.’

With Leicester continuing preparations for the new season, Page will hope to build on that confidence and stake his claim for regular first-team opportunities under Martin as competition for midfield places gathers pace.
