Just In 🚨: Leicester City have provided an update on the return dates of Conor Chaplin and Will Alves. Here’s when they are expected to be back.

Leicester City begin their 2026/27 campaign on Saturday when they welcome Northampton Town to the King Power Stadium in the Carabao Cup.

Russell Martin’s side have enjoyed pre-season, recording victories over Burton Albion, Bristol Rovers and Cadiz. They drew 3-3 with Malaga before suffering 1-0 defeats against Coventry City and Genoa.

The Northampton clash offers players a chance before the League One opener against Notts County on August 15. However, Martin has current fitness concerns.

Ben Nelson
Potential return date: Unknown

Nelson’s knee injury is the concern after he was forced off against Genoa. Martin hopes it is not serious.

“Hopefully it’s nothing serious and we’ll assess that in the next couple of days,” he said.

“We’ll keep our fingers crossed that it’s not too serious.”

Will Alves
Potential return date: Northampton (August 8)

Alves missed weekend friendlies but Martin has confirmed he should return against Northampton.

“Will definitely will be [in the squad for Northampton],” Martin said.

Conor Chaplin
Potential return date: Northampton (August 8) or Notts County (August 15)

Chaplin missed last week’s games with a knock, although the problem is not considered serious. Martin is cautious.

“We’re hopeful that both of them [Chaplin and McCarthy] will be involved next week,” the Leicester boss said.

“If it’s not this week, it means it’s not worth risking them yet.”
