AdminAston Villa could be weighing up a move for experienced Germany international Leon Goretzka as Unai Emery continues to assess his midfield options ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
The 31-year-old is currently available after leaving Bayern Munich when his contract expired at the end of last season, and his situation has attracted interest from clubs in England.
Villa are exploring the possibility of bringing the central midfielder to Villa Park, according to multiple reports, including talkSPORT, the Daily Mail and transfer journalist Matteo Moretto.
The Midlands club are understood to be considering Goretzka as they look to strengthen their squad with another experienced midfielder.
Villa had previously been pursuing Goretzka’s former Bayern Munich teammate João Palhinha, but that move now appears unlikely, with the Portuguese international reportedly edging closer to a return to Benfica.
Goretzka would bring considerable experience at the highest level, having spent eight years with Bayern after joining the German giants in 2018.
During his time at the club, he made 312 appearances across all competitions, scoring 51 goals and registering 53 assists.
The midfielder has also established himself as a regular for Germany, earning 73 international caps.
With Goretzka now a free agent, Villa could have an opportunity to negotiate a deal without paying a transfer fee, although competition for his signature could emerge as the summer transfer window approaches its conclusion.
