Aston Villa are reportedly in advanced negotiations with Club Brugge over a deal for Ecuadorian defender Joel Ordonez, with the player already agreeing personal terms with the Premier League club, according to GVA.
Villa have endured a turbulent summer despite securing Champions League football, losing several key players including Youri Tielemans, Lucas Digne, Morgan Rogers and Ezri Konsa.
Emi Martinez is also expected to leave, while Ollie Watkins is pushing for a move to Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal before next week’s transfer deadline.
Unai Emery has attempted to rebuild his squad with the arrivals of Joao Gomes, Johan Manzambi, Alejandro Garnacho, Matteo Ruggeri, Zion Suzuki and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
However, those additions could not prevent Villa from suffering a humiliating 4-0 defeat against Brighton in their opening league fixture.
With Konsa gone, Pau Torres and Victor Lindelof started at centre-back, but Emery remains determined to add another defender. Ordonez has now emerged as one of Villa’s leading targets.

The Athletic reported over the weekend that talks had opened with Club Brugge for the highly-rated 22-year-old, who has been described as ‘phenomenal’.
GVA now claims negotiations have advanced significantly, with Ordonez agreeing contract terms at Villa Park.
The defender is currently sidelined with a foot injury until October, but Villa are pressing ahead despite strong European interest.
The deal is expected to cost below β¬40m (Β£34m), with Club Brugge already signing his replacement.
