Aston Villa are stepping up their efforts to sign Club Brugge defender Joel Ordóñez during the final week of the summer transfer window, with negotiations now entering a decisive stage.
Reports from Belgium have revealed that Villa have already reached an agreement on personal terms with the 22-year-old Ecuador international.
The remaining hurdle is reaching an agreement with Club Brugge over the structure of the deal.
Gazet van Antwerpen reported that talks between the clubs are ongoing, although it remains unclear whether the proposed move will initially be permanent or a loan.
The Belgian side previously valued Ordóñez at €40m, but his current injury situation could force them to accept a lower fee.
Ordóñez suffered a setback while on international duty with Ecuador and remains sidelined, but that has not stopped Villa from pushing ahead with their pursuit.

Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri provided another update on X, formerly known as Twitter, claiming Aston Villa ‘emissaries are coming to Club Brugge’ to negotiate directly over the defender.
The Premier League club are reportedly seeking a loan deal with a conditional obligation to buy for around €30m. Ordóñez is contracted to Club Brugge until 2029 and is currently valued at around €33m by Transfermarkt.
The two clubs are continuing discussions over the proposed formula, with the main sticking point understood to be the conditions attached to Villa’s obligation to buy.
Villa’s latest negotiations are aimed at resolving those details and completing the move for Ordóñez, who has already agreed personal terms with Unai Emery’s side.
