AdminLeicester City boss Russell Martin has addressed the reaction from supporters after the Foxes were booed during a frustrating spell, admitting the atmosphere reflected years of disappointment surrounding the club.
Martin did not shy away from the criticism and appeared to understand why sections of the Leicester support became increasingly frustrated.
The manager suggested the reaction was not simply about what happened during the latest match, but instead the result of frustrations that have been building for a considerable period.
‘We were waiting for them to score’
The Leicester manager believes the supporters’ reaction cannot be viewed in isolation.
He pointed towards a much wider feeling among fans, with disappointment stretching back several seasons as the club has endured a difficult period both on and off the pitch.
‘So I think that’s a build-up of two, three years, maybe even longer, of frustration towards the club, the team, whatever it is’
Despite the boos, Martin was keen to acknowledge the supporters’ commitment and insisted their overall energy inside the stadium was still impressive.
‘By the way, their energy was amazing’
Martin’s comments underline the challenge facing Leicester as they look to rebuild their relationship with supporters.
The manager knows results and performances will ultimately be the key to changing the mood, but he also appears determined to recognise the frustration that has been building among the fanbase.
