Troy Deeney has offered his assessment of Nicolas Jackson following the Senegal international’s move to Aston Villa from Chelsea this summer.
Jackson arrived as a late addition to Unai Emery’s squad, with Villa needing another attacking option after Ollie Watkins left for Saudi Arabia.
The 25-year-old was also familiar to Emery, having previously worked with the manager during his time at Villarreal.
His start at Villa had been quiet, with Jackson failing to score in his opening two appearances. However, that changed dramatically in Belgium, as he found the net against Club Brugge in the Champions League.
Despite the encouraging display, Deeney believes there is still plenty of room for improvement.

Speaking on CBS Sports Golazo, he said: “He’s got so much more to add to his game. He gets caught offside a lot, he can link up up a bit better, but when you’ve got a manager that’s willing to coach him, teach him and say ‘You’re the main man.’ That’s massive for Nicolas Jackson.”
Jackson’s performance in Brugge suggested there is already plenty to like. He completed 18 passes, created three chances and registered two successful dribbles.
He also had three shots, scored his first Villa goal, made one interception and recovered possession four times.
If Deeney is right about Jackson’s potential, Villa supporters could be seeing only the beginning of what the striker can offer.
