Unai Emery has urged Alejandro Garnacho to remain patient as the Chelsea loanee continues to wait for a regular opportunity at Aston Villa.
Garnacho watched a third consecutive match from the bench after being left out of Villa’s squad for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup victory over Coventry City. Emery made seven changes from the side beaten by Nottingham Forest, but the winger was still unable to force his way into the manager’s plans.
The 22-year-old has made only three substitute appearances this season and has yet to establish himself as a regular option.
Asked what Garnacho must do to earn more minutes, Emery said: “Continue working. Work, work, train, work.
“When he can have minutes to play, try and play well. He is progressing, but we have players in front of him now.”
While Garnacho remained unused, Ibrahim Mbaye was handed his full debut, while George Hemmings continued his impressive run and provided the assist for Tammy Abraham’s opening goal.

Johan Manzambi and Nicolas Jackson also came off the bench, but Alysson was introduced with Emery’s final substitution after goalkeeper Marco Bizot was injured.
Emery said: “George is playing fantastic. Alysson is also understanding things well and is giving us things I want. Mbaye also responded well.
“We want a competitive team and players to compete in the style we have. Garnacho is a little bit behind because of some circumstances we had in pre-season. It is time to be patient for the time he needs.
