An Aston Villa goalkeeper has provided an encouraging update on his fitness after missing Japanβs friendly victory over Uruguay because of a rib injury.
The shot-stopper had been expected to start the game but was ruled out after the issue prevented him from reaching full fitness.
The fixture ultimately came too soon for the former Parma goalkeeper, who was forced to watch from the sidelines.
Zion Suzuki has since stepped up his recovery and returned to group training after initially following an individual programme.
According to Livedoor News, the 23-year-old has also revealed that he is making progress as he works towards returning to full fitness.
He said: βIβve fallen a bit behind, but I want to get back into shape quickly and get myself back to 100 per cent.β
Japan still have three more friendlies to play during the international break, with Venezuela, Ecuador and Panama awaiting them.

Their next fixture will take place in Hiroshima, although it remains unclear whether Suzuki will be fit enough to make his return.
Aston Villa will certainly hope Japan do not take unnecessary risks with their goalkeeper if there are still concerns over his condition.
Suzuki has quickly become Villaβs first-choice goalkeeper following his summer arrival from Parma, replacing Emi Martinez after the Argentineβs move to Chelsea.
Since joining the club, Suzuki has kept one clean sheet while conceding seven goals across six appearances.
