UNBELIEVABLE: Aston Villa star has one RARE quality that gives Emery NO CHOICE but to keep picking him! 💥

Aston Villa have made a mixed start to the new Premier League campaign, with one of their key creative players managing just one goal contribution across the opening five matches.

The 29-year-old remains an important attacking option for Unai Emery, having produced 11 goals and nine assists in 54 appearances across all competitions last season.

However, like several of his Villa teammates, he has yet to reach his best level in 2026-27.

Emi Buendia’s goal in the 3-2 victory over Tottenham provided a timely boost before the international break, but his influence without the ball has arguably been just as significant.

Emery expects every player to contribute defensively, and Buendia has shown a willingness to do exactly that.

According to FotMob, he ranks in the top 9.2 per cent of Premier League players in his position for tackles won, with nine to his name.

He also sits in the top 11.8 per cent for defensive contributions, while his 12.4 kilometres covered puts him among the top 3.9 per cent.

His 26 duels won, six aerial duels, four interceptions and 20 recoveries further underline his defensive value.

However, his attacking numbers remain below expectations. Buendia has managed only two shots on target, one successful cross and five chances created.

His 75.7 per cent passing accuracy also places him in the bottom 25 percentile among positional rivals.

Villa will hope his attacking output improves soon.
