Harry Winks’ time at Leicester City has been far from smooth. The midfielder made a £10m move from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023 and initially threw himself into Enzo Maresca’s project.

However, his spell at the King Power has been marred by disputes with the last three managers, the most serious of which saw him miss the end of the 2024/25 season.

With the summer approaching, many supporters expect the 30-year-old to depart — though any exit will not come on a free transfer.

Fresh developments have emerged regarding Winks’ contract. As reported by Jordan Blackwell, his deal was automatically extended by a year following Leicester’s promotion back to the Premier League in 2024, meaning he is not among the long list of players leaving for free.

While Winks has not consistently replicated the heights of his debut season, he has impressed at key moments.

He played a pivotal role in Leicester’s strong start to the season, and under Gary Rowett, he has become increasingly influential.

His goal against Stoke, celebrated in front of the away fans, harked back to his decisive strikes at QPR and West Brom under Maresca.

Any fee above £2.5m for Winks would be significant for Leicester, especially after their points deduction under the Profit and Sustainability Rules. With several players, including Jordan Ayew, Patson Daka, and Ricardo Pereira, out of contract, the club could benefit financially.

Blackwell added: “It’s understood that his pay packet is less than half the £90,000-a-week figure that has been floating around,” making him an affordable target for interested clubs. If Winks stays, his intelligence and passing remain vital for a side built around possession.
