Just a year ago, the Foxes were expected to challenge for promotion back to the Premier League following their return to the Championship.
Instead, financial uncertainty, a six-point deduction and poor form under Marti Cifuentes and Gary Rowett combined to produce a disastrous campaign that ended in relegation to League One.
The punishment handed down by the EFL for alleged PSR breaches only deepened the crisis, while a run of two wins in 14 matches under Rowett sealed Leicester’s fate.
The fall was particularly painful given the club’s remarkable rise a decade earlier when they stunned football by winning the Premier League at 5000-1 odds.
Much of that success was driven by Jamie Vardy, whose 13-year spell at the King Power Stadium ended last summer. However, tensions appear to remain between the Vardy family and Leicester chief Jon Rudkin.
Earlier this week, Rudkin was promoted to chief executive despite growing criticism from supporters. Rebekah Vardy added further fuel to the debate during an Instagram Q&A.
Asked by a Leicester fan, “Would you invite Jon Rudkin to a family BBQ?”, Vardy simply responded, “Nope!”
Meanwhile, Rebekah has also dismissed rumours linking Jamie with a return to Leicester, describing the speculation as “fake news”.
