A former Leicester City captain has stepped down as Newport County manager, bringing his spell in charge of the club to an end.
The ex-Foxes defender, who took over the role with ambitions of helping Newport build for the future, has decided to leave his position after what has been a challenging period. His departure marks the end of a chapter in which he worked to establish stability and guide the team through a demanding campaign.
Newport County confirmed the news in a brief official statement on Sunday, paying tribute to the former Austria international for his efforts during his time at the club.
The club said: “Newport County can confirm that Christian Fuchs has made the decision to step away from his role as manager.
Everyone at Newport County would like to thank Christian for his hard work, commitment and professionalism, and wish him every success for the future.”

Fuchs arrived with a wealth of experience from an outstanding playing career, most notably as part of Leicester City’s unforgettable Premier League title-winning side in 2016.
He brought high standards and professionalism to the role, although results on the pitch ultimately proved difficult to maintain.
Attention will now turn to Newport County’s search for a new manager as preparations continue for the upcoming season.
The club will be hoping to appoint a successor capable of building on the foundations already in place and leading the team forward.
