Russell Martin has admitted he is still some way from settling on his strongest Leicester City side as preparations for the new Championship season continue.

The Foxes head coach has spent the opening weeks of pre-season assessing his squad in training and during friendly matches, with every player being given the chance to impress before the campaign begins.

While supporters are eager to know what Leicester’s preferred starting line-up will look like, Martin insists no decisions have been finalised.

Speaking after being asked whether he already knows his strongest XI, the Leicester boss made it clear that the competition for places remains wide open.

“I’m learning a lot about the players. I don’t think the strongest 11 will be known maybe until the week of the season. Everyone has an opportunity at the minute”

The comments underline Martin’s desire to judge players on their performances throughout pre-season rather than relying on reputations.

With several new arrivals and a number of young players also looking to force their way into contention, the manager believes every member of the squad still has the chance to earn a place.

Leicester still have more preparation before the competitive action gets under way, giving Martin additional opportunities to experiment with different combinations and systems.

His message is clear: no shirt has been guaranteed, and every training session and friendly match could influence who earns a place in Leicester City’s starting line-up when the Championship season finally gets underway.
