He is back! Aston Villa’s fan favourite is back with the squad as he trained with the team today.

Aston Villa’s pre-season has been far from straightforward for Unai Emery, but the return of a key midfielder has given the manager a significant reason for optimism ahead of the new campaign.

After seven months on the sidelines, the Frenchman made his long-awaited comeback in Villa’s 3-1 friendly victory over BG Pathum in Thailand, and wasted little time reminding everyone of his quality by getting himself on the scoresheet.

Boubacar Kamara’s return has provided Emery with a timely boost as he continues to prepare his squad for the challenges ahead. John Townley summed up his performance in his player ratings, writing: “He’s class, isn’t he? Just moments after coming on for his first appearance in seven months, the Frenchman swept Villa into a three-goal lead.”

Kamara’s return comes after he suffered knee ligament damage during a challenge with Joao Palhinha against Tottenham in the FA Cup last season.

Reflecting on his comeback, the midfielder said: “Yeah, it felt good to be back. I have been waiting for this moment.

I have worked hard during my rehab so I could come back stronger. So I’m happy to be here today.

“I didn’t expect to score, so that was good. Good for the head. It gave me more confidence, and I need to keep going.

“It was very hot – it’s difficult to breathe. The humidity is hard, but it’s good for the body, so when we come back to England, we will feel better.”

His return could prove crucial for Emery as Villa prepare for another demanding Premier League campaign.
