West Ham United may have identified a player who could become one of Brazil’s next major exports, with their interest in Martinelli looking increasingly significant.
The midfielder was relatively unknown in England, but his performances in Brazil have rapidly changed that.
His recent form has even earned him recognition from Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti, leading to a senior international call-up.
Premier League clubs have increasingly turned towards the South American market in search of emerging talent, hoping to develop players and eventually make substantial profits.
West Ham are following that strategy, although they will want a better outcome than their experience with Keiber Lamadrid so far.
Martinelli was already on the Hammers’ radar, but securing his signature could now require a club-record fee for Fluminense.

According to Globo, West Ham were among several clubs to make an approach for the midfielder in 2026, with their offer reportedly falling short of £12 million. Fluminense’s current record sale is Andre, who joined Wolves for £21.4 million.
Martinelli is currently considered untouchable, but his performances and Brazil call-up could eventually lead to a record-breaking transfer.
West Ham could certainly use another midfielder. Edson Alvarez and Soungoutou Magassa may leave, while Mateus Fernandes and James Ward-Prowse have already departed.
Divine Mukasa and Arne Engels currently feature regularly, with Mahamadou Kante and Lewis Orford providing further options. However, with several players still developing, another midfielder could be required.
