AdminAston Villa are preparing to announce the signing of German international Leon Goretzka after the midfielder completed his medical with the Premier League club.
According to Sky Germany, the 31-year-old successfully passed his medical on Tuesday, paving the way for the move to be officially confirmed.
Villa have been working to strengthen their midfield this summer and appear to have secured a major addition with the arrival of the experienced German.
Goretzka became a free agent after leaving Bayern Munich when his contract expired at the end of last season.
Several clubs had been linked with the midfielder since his departure from the Bundesliga giants, but Villa have now seemingly won the race for his signature.
The move will bring an end to Goretzka’s long career in German football. The former Schalke 04 midfielder made 327 Bundesliga appearances, scoring 54 goals and providing 52 assists during his time in the competition.
Goretzka has also established himself as an experienced international, making 73 appearances for Germany. He has scored 15 goals and registered 12 assists for his country.
His arrival would provide Unai Emery with additional experience, quality and depth in midfield as Villa prepare for another demanding campaign.
With his medical completed, attention now turns to the official announcement, which could arrive shortly as Villa look set to welcome another high-profile signing to the squad.
