Oxford United boss Aaron Ramsey revealed how his side’s tactical approach helped them produce a stunning 4-0 victory over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.
Ramsey, in his first managerial role, watched Oxford punish Leicester with two goals from Mark Harris, while Jamie McDonnell and 18-year-old Mo Missanga also found the net.
The result marked an impressive statement from Oxford in the early weeks of the League One campaign, with new signing Kai Andrews, on loan from Coventry, providing two assists on his full debut. Aston Villa loanee Luka Lynch also impressed, registering an assist on his first appearance.
Ramsey admitted he expected a “very difficult” challenge against Leicester and stressed that Oxford would need to be at their “absolute best” to secure maximum points.

He told the Oxford Mail: “The way that we wanted to build, we tweaked it a little bit so that we can create some overloads in certain areas and capitalise in there on the opposite side.
“It was really pleasing that that came to life and then out of possession just being really patient. And then when it came into two areas, being super aggressive in that press. The team were ready from the off, you could sense it.
“Leicester are a tough team. The way that Russell sets them up is really challenging at times, and he definitely tests you; you have to be switched on throughout the whole game.
“They do like to try and commit and link off the striker as well, and find the spare man. But I thought the boys dealt with that really, really well today. Actually, we created lots of transitional moments from that.”
