Aston Villa captain John McGinn has opened up on his relationship with new signing Nicolas Jackson, admitting he initially had doubts about what the forward would be like after their previous battles in the Premier League.
Jackson joined Villa from Chelsea during the summer and has already begun making an impression at his new club.
While his arrival brought plenty of excitement, McGinn revealed that their history on the pitch meant he was unsure what to expect when the striker first walked through the door at Villa Park.
The Scotland international has previously gone head-to-head with Jackson during his time at Chelsea, with the pair involved in several heated moments.
However, McGinn insists those clashes are now firmly in the past and believes Jackson has shown a completely different side of himself away from the competitive environment.

John McGinn on Nicolas Jackson: “I had a couple of fights with him when he was at Chelsea, so when he first came in I thought, ‘What’s he going to be like?’
But he’s a brilliant guy. I probably fight with half the league but I’m a good guy off the pitch!”
McGinn’s comments highlight the positive atmosphere developing inside Unai Emery’s squad, while Jackson appears to have quickly earned the respect of his new teammates.
For Villa supporters, the captain’s words will only increase excitement around Jackson as he looks to establish himself as an important figure in Emery’s attack.
