AdminLeicester City are closing in on the signing of former Southampton midfielder Will Smallbone, with the Republic of Ireland international set to join the club as a free agent.
The 26-year-old midfielder has emerged as the latest addition to Leicester’s squad and is expected to put pen to paper on a three-year contract.
The move would see Smallbone begin a new chapter in his career after leaving Southampton.
Smallbone came through Southampton’s academy and went on to establish himself within the first-team setup.
His time at St Mary’s included spells where he became an important option in midfield, while his performances also earned him international recognition with the Republic of Ireland.
Leicester have been working to strengthen their squad and add experience as they prepare for the challenges ahead.
Smallbone’s arrival would give manager Russell Martin another midfield option and add further competition for places in the centre of the pitch.
The deal is understood to be close to completion, with the player now expected to finalise the formalities of his move to the King Power Stadium.
For Leicester supporters, the signing represents another opportunity to add quality and experience to the squad.
Smallbone will now be hoping to make an immediate impact and play an important role in Leicester’s plans following his move to the club on a free transfer.
The three-year agreement would keep him at Leicester until 2029, subject to the final completion of the deal.
