Alphonse Areola could finally make his long-awaited return to the West Ham United squad when Nuno EspÃrito Santo’s side face Queens Park Rangers next week.
The French goalkeeper has endured a frustrating start to the campaign after fitness problems kept him out of contention.
Nuno previously confirmed that Areola was improving after suffering a knock in training, but the 33-year-old has yet to feature for the Hammers this season.
Recent reports now suggest Areola is expected to return to the squad when Championship football resumes against QPR on October 9.
West Ham have not officially confirmed that he will be available, meaning his comeback remains subject to his fitness.

His return could provide Nuno with another important selection decision. Mads Hermansen has established himself as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper during Areola’s absence, meaning the Frenchman may initially have to settle for a place on the bench.
Areola remains an experienced option, having played a key role in West Ham’s recent Premier League campaigns and helping the club win the Europa Conference League in 2023.
With a busy period ahead, his return would give Nuno greater depth between the posts and another experienced goalkeeper to call upon.
For West Ham, having Areola back could be a timely boost.
